It uses indicative servicing test rates, deposit rules and debt-to-income caps modelled on how New Zealand banks actually assess lending. It is a guide, not an approval, which is exactly where a mortgage adviser earns their keep.

How much deposit do I need to buy my first home?

Most banks want 20% for a standard loan, but low-deposit lending exists and several banks accept 5% for eligible first home buyers under the First Home Loan scheme. As a working number, 10% of the purchase price gets you a real conversation and 20% gets you the best pricing.

Does using this affect my credit score?

No. Nothing here touches your credit file. It is a self-serve estimate using only the numbers you type in.
